Hip Saver hip protectors use a dual mechanism - shock absorption and energy shunting - to reduce fall force. The patent pending Hip Saver air pad uses foam (developed by NASA to protect astronauts) in an airtight waterproof pouch, which is sewn into the underwear over each hip. In the event of a fall, the foam first absorbs impact - then, like a miniature automobile air bag, inflates the pouch, shunting force away from the vulnerable hipbone to the soft tissue of the buttocks. |
